Q&A on College

The following is a "wiki style" Question and Answer about college. Students researched the questions and found the answers and then we added a bunch of them together. This will change throughout the process as students add and modify it.

How much does it cost to go to college?
The price figures range from $7,000 a year to $14,000 a year depending on the university we looked up. However, if you get a scholarship it’s not that much.

Do we have to have roommates?
If you live on campus, most places require a roommate?

Can you choose your roommate?
This was hard for us to find. It sounds like you can request one at ASU, but there is no guarantee that you’ll get to choose them all.

Is it illegal to party in college?
It’s not illegal to get together with friends, but it is illegal to drink alcohol underage.

What’s the difference between college and community college?
Community college is open to anyone and doesn’t have bachelor’s degrees.

How long does it take to go to college?
It usually takes four years, but associates degrees are two years. Sometiimes people take longer.

How many classes do you take?
It depends on what you are studying. Most full-time students take at least four classes (12 credits)

How many students are in a class?
Some classes are as small as one (music tutoring) and some have more than one hundred.

Are classes everyday?
Some classes are available on certain days and others on other days. So it’s possible to go to school on just Monday/Wednesday or just Tuesday/Thursday.

Can friends that are not attending visit?
Yes, unless it’s a private college.

Why weren’t there more Hispanics?
This is beginning to change. More and more Latinos are getting degrees, which means things will be better for the next generation.

Will it be harder?
Yes, because you will have more work to do outside of class. But they treat you like adults and you have freedom.

Can you work a job?
They don’t recommend it for students who are a little behind. They are worried it might affect your grades.

How many majors are there?
There are fourteen choices at ASU and it varies in other colleges.

How do you get scholarships?
You earn one by having a high GPA, scoring well on the ACT or SAT, doing community service, being in clubs or sports and making sure you find out about what’s available. If your parents make less money, you have a better chance.

Are night classes available?
Most universities have night classes.

College Reflections

The following are some reflections that can also be read (in expanded version) on our Social Pulse website.

What surprised you about ASU?

Diana

What surprise me when we were over there is that mostly all the the students there ride their bikes. I thought they will all have a car but I guess some of them live around there so they don't need a car. Another thing that surprised me was that the campus was huge. That lady didn't lie when she said it was huge. What a big campus! If I went there I will get lost I wont know were to go.Well mostly every thing there surprised me so yeah. A.S.U is a very big place I might go there one day.

How do you feel about college?
Eydmar
How do I feel about college in the future. There are many feelings that i'm feeling about college. One feeling is that I feel kind of excited. I think that college (or universities) offer great opportunities for everyone. It is a huge change. Part of that change can be good. On the other hand part of that big change can be scary at first. It will be a totally different concept than middle school and high school. Those are my feelings on college.

What will you do in the next year to prepare for college?
Mar
What I am planning to do in the year that is following is participate in as many community programs as possible. I will be more involved in school activities and will try my hardest to get a high GPA. I will be more responsible than I am now and I will always ask for help if I ever need any. I will not let anything discourage me at all. I will try to get nothing less than an "A-" on any assignment. I also plan to talk to the high school counselor about my wish to go to a University and how to get there

What did you think about after going to ASU?
by Stephany
The ASU Tempe campus was greater than I've imagined, and satisfied all of my positive thoughts about how people interact within the campus. I was surprised that everyone interacted so well with one another, and how they merely looked beyond all their differences. Another amazing thing that I noticed was that their was no bounderies or difficult regulations, the students seemed like they could easily demonstrate their free will to do what they pleased. The campus also had several elements of the real world, where the students were free to practice how the world outside of school area. Not only that, but I could clearly see that their was no cliques in which people revolved from but their was mostly indivisuals throughout the campus. Although their were many differences to what we are now exposed to in many ways it would be a greater experience in result of all those unique elements in a university.

by Angela
College, to me is the door to many opportunities that I would hateto miss out on. I know for a fact that there are many requirements that must be met in order for me to have the job and career I really want to have. I personally am interested in child psychology and the development of families. That for itself I know would take allot of work and dedication in order for me to fully understand all that there is to know about psychology but regardless of that just by the fact that I want to deal with children that will mean that there will be even more work and even more dedication. So there for that means that for me College is an absolute must, both because of the fact that that is one of the requirements in order for me to get the career I want, but also because I have and will make sure that all of my families sacrifices to get me here will not be in vain.

Education and Immigration

by Jessica

In some countries going to school is a challenge every day. Some teens have to take the school bus for hours just to get to get there! We whine because we have to get up at 6:30 in the morning, imagine at what time they get up at. Some teens have to work and support their families and study at the same time. With out "papers" you have to get jobs that get paid minimum wage. Do you think minimum wage is going to support a family when there's only one person working a part time job with a minimum wage pay? This is just one of the many dynamics that occur in the issue of immigration and education.

Today many of us don't take advantage of one of the greatest opportunity's we ever have in life!! Many of the citizen students drop out because of drugs, others because of alcohol others just because they cant stand their parents at home and they decide to run away but its not everyone's case. Immigrant students who avoid these things can end up with a dead-end after working hard!

There are some youth out there that wanted to become someone in this world a teacher, a doctor perhaps a lawyer but because of being in this country "illegally" they can't. . . they just made it past high school and their future is over, they have to go get a job that gets paid minimum wage. You think that's fair that one person passed high school with out standing grades but he has to get a job at nine dollars an hour while someone else passes by with a free lunch.

A new law passed that immigrants can go to college but the cost is going to be more (their going to charge immigrants more than they would charge a citizen) okay their getting the chance to get educated but their going to be charged more than the average kid would get charged. So just because you don't have a piece of paper signed by your parents saying that you were born in the united states your going to get charged extra. What ever happened to the American Dream?

When some one says "I'm going to get it my way" I'm pretty sure they don't say it just for fun when some one really wants something they fight for it. So if your dream is to become a doctor, lawyer, firefighter a cop a private investigator what ever you want to be fight for it!!! If you don't have papers, help change the laws! Maybe it's going to be a long way to reach your goal, maybe people are going to try to stop you their going to TRY to take you down but don't let people stop you.

Today immigration and education are becoming a big issue in our everyday lives. If we don't do something about its going to keep on going. Good students will be failed by the system. So I challenge you to take the risk and fight for your goals no matter what happens keep trying. We need to set an example for the ones to come. WE need to make this day a better day so tomorrow.

A Four Day School Week

Money saved in energy could be invested in new energy-saving solutions, which could lead to energy-effecient laptops and thus a higher quality education. A small shift in thinking could have a major ripple effect for families, students, teachers and even the money-hungry politcians who make the decisions.

by Julio

Why do some are some schools 4-day schools? Why are many schools opting for permanent three day weekends? Is it simply a cost-saving device or could this system actually benefit our society and the minds of the youth?

If Borman switched to a 4-day school we could save a larger amount of money. Our school is going under a major budget crisis. Basic suppies are hard to fund.  If it was a a 4-day school, we would saved enough money to buy new computers and extra supplies.  Energy costs are high, but a campus that is closed from Friday through Sunday would mean less money spent on basic maintenance.  Teachers who wanted to provide extra opportunities could get parental permission to do job shadowing, academic field trips or service projects with students on Fridays.

If Borman middle school was a 4-day school the students would be beter rested and better energized.  Many students feel too tired as it is.  By structuring in extra rest time, students would have the chance to rejuvenize.  For us, it would mean better learning.  Since district is not concerned about learning, we might be able to prove that students would do way better in tests. And we would spend more times with our families, which would mean happy, healthier students as well. Today many kids aren't connected with there parents, but an extra day off could mean more family time. Plus it would give teachers a break too. Because better rested teachers teach better. And it would give them an extra day for them to grade papers instead of craming everything in 2 days.  Many teachers would like to have extra time to provide authentic feedback and to develop interactive lessons.

Also it would be eco-friendly too. With just having an extra day we would have saved thousands in electricty bills and we would be doing our part in saving the world from total anahillation. I've gone to Borman at night and they leave the lights on. Sersiously why do janitors leave the lights on all night? Is it to stop vandalism? It happens anyway. If we took out the lights that stay on in the classroom that would help too. It could be the beginning of turning Borman into a green school.  Moreover, as we save money on energy we could invest in solar panels that would power laptops, thus saving money and the environment at the same time.

A four day work week would benefit everybody.  It would save money, which would make the district happy.  It would provide necessary rest and potential additional support for teachers and students and it would lead to healthier, happy, more productive people all around.  It would be a step toward a sustainable planet, a cost-effecient school and a place where a quality education is not tied down to the quantity of time.

Textbooks Censor Reality

by Mar

RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT-TAT-TAT flesh is flying all over the place slapping its self on young children's faces, students are screaming and yelling and running for their lives.....this could have happened but hey we don't know, textbooks never mention this at all. But why?

Is it not obvious, people don't want everyone to know what really happened when civil right leaders like Malcolm X used violence to find freedom for their races. Three reasons why this would be is: they don't want to show that people actually feared civil right leaders, they don't want children to know the truth about history, they don't want them to know that there was violence involved not just people protesting and going against things in a peaceful way!

They don't show that the country actually feared some civil right leaders because they are trying to make people think that America and Americans have never been threatened by civil right leaders or their supporters. The text books just want people to think that everything happened without people being threatened or killed and everything was violent less and peaceful and that Amercica is not afraid of anything or anyone.

They don't want children to know the truth about history. They also don't want them to think that some people who have fought for freedom were the bad guys as well. Not telling them the whole truth would be another reason because they do not want kids to think about doing these things. They also don't want them to seem like the bads guys.

The final reason would be, they do not want us to know that besides protesting and going on strike people used violence. They don't want children to know this because they don't want them to think about it and believe that it is the way to solve our problems.

That is why text books do not show all that was or is, they don't want people who were bad seem bad, they probably don't want people to think they even existed! They also seem to think that it is unimportant.

Bullying Basics

What are the different ways kids bully each other?
Bullying a problem that doesn't end even with the help from others. It happens everywhere from kids to even adults. There are different ways to be bullied, five to be specific. All five affect the person in a way that will scare or hurt them. The five ways are:
  • teasing
  • physical
  • exclusion
  • online/cellphone
  • threatening
Teasing hurts their feelings. It makes them feel bad of who they are. Physical will hurt them on the outside. It will leave them bruised and marked on the inside of what had happened to them.
Exclusion which is purposely leaves some one out. that will also make them feel bad and thought of why they didn't want them in might go through there head. Online and/or cellphone bullying can scare the person. Fear would be sent through the body not knowing want would be next. Threatening can effect one mentally like some of the others can. Fear can also be something like the bomb threat we had that one year at Borman. Some students didn't not came because of the fear. All the bullying can and might affect you for days, months or years. It severely can it all hurts us.

School Dress Codes

when I wear a uniform, we become uniform
by Stevie

TAKE A WALK AROUND ANY SCHOOL CAMPUS AND YOU'LL SEE THE SAME SCENARIO. EVERYONE LOOKING THE SAME, WEARING THE SAME POLO SHIRTS AND BORING DRESS PANTS. MOST SCHOOLS HAVE UNIFORMS. IT'S NOT FAIR. PEOPLE SHOULD BE ABLE TO WEAR WHAT THEY WANT, WHENEVER THEY WANT. IF IT WAS UP TO US NOTHING WOULD BE LIKE THIS.

THERE ARE MANY REASONS FOR HAVING SCHOOL UNIFORMS. HOWEVER, NONE OF THEM MAKE ANY SENSE. PEOPLE SAY THAT SCHOOL SHOULD BE A WAY TO PREPARE US FOR THE ADULT WORLD. HOWEVER, IN THE ADULT WORLD, PEOPLE CAN CHOOSE THEIR OWN CLOTHING. ALSO, SOME PEOPLE DON'T HAVE MUCH MONEY. SAY THEY WENT TO A SCHOOL THAT WAS NON-UNIFORM, AND THEY AREN'T WORRIED BECAUSE THEY KNOW THEY HAVE CLOTHES. THEY DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT THEY HAVE A CLEAN UNIFORM. BUYING ADDITIONAL UNIFORMS WOULD COST THEM LOTS OF MONEY. THEN THEY HAVE TO BUY NEW CLOTHES AND HAVE LESS MONEY.

AFTER AWHILE, THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE FAIL TO NOTICE THE MOTIVES BEHIND STUDENT CLOTHES. IF SOMEONE WORE EAR RINGS THAT WERE A CERTAIN SHAPE, THEY'D HAVE TO TAKE THEM OFF, YET THAT STUDENT IS JUST TRYING TO SHOW SOME INDIVIDUALITY. SOMETIMES GIRLS WEAR DIFFERENT COLORED UNDERSHIRTS, SO THAT THEIR BRAWS DON'T SHOW THROUGH AND THEN THE TEACHERS MAKE THEM TAKE THEM OFF SO NOW THEY HAVE A SEE-THROUGH SHIRT.

NO TEACHER EVER HAS TO WEAR A UNIFORM BECAUSE THEY ARE FORCED INTO IT. TRUE, THEY HAVE TO DRESS NICE, BUT IT'S ULTIMATELY THEIR DECISIONS. IF WE HAVE TO, WHY DON'T THEY? ON FRIDAY'S THEY COULD WEAR WHATEVER THEY WANT. WHY CAN'T WE? WE HAVE TO TRY TO LEARN THE STUFF THAT THEY GET PAID FOR IF WE LEARN IT. WE DON'T GET PAID AND WE DON'T EVEN HAVE A CHOICE ABOUT BEING HERE. AT LEAST TEACHERS HAVE THE OPTION OF FINDING A JOB WITHOUT UNIFORMS.

WHOEVER MADE THESE RULES NEVER ASKED A STUDENT WHAT WE THOUGHT OR OUR OPINIONS. WELL THAT'S GOT TO CHANGE. CLOTHES ARE HOW SOME ONE EXPRESS' THEMSELVES. TELLING US WHAT TO WEAR IS LIKE TELLING US WE CAN'T BE OURSELVES. WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO WEAR CLOTHES THE WAY WE WANT AND AS WE FEEL LIKE IT. DESIGNERS MAKE CLOTHES BECAUSE THAT'S THE WAY THEY LIKE THEM TO BE. AND WE BUY AND WEAR THE CLOTHES BECAUSE THAT'S THE WAY WE WANT THEM TO BE!

EVERYONE HAS A DIFFERENT STYLE, TO THE WAY THEY DRESS. IT'S HOW THEY SPEAK THEIR MIND. IT'S HOW THEY SHARE THEIR BELIEFS. IT'S HOW THEY COMMUNICATE WHO THEY ARE. THEY COULD DRESS PREPPY, ROCKISH, SKATERISH, PLAIN, EVEN IN THEIR CULTURE.. BUT THEY DO DRESS. AND HOW DO THEY GET THE CLOTHES THEY WEAR? THEY BUY THEM...THEY DON'T JUST BUY WHATEVER. THEY BUY WHAT THEY LIKE.

PEOPLE CHOOSE WHAT TO BUY, OR IN SOME CASES THEY STEAL THE CLOTHES... AND WHY WOULD THEY WAIST THEIR FREEDOM ON GETTING CLOTHES THEY DON'T LIKE? EVERY ONE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THEIR OWN STYLE. EVERYONE WANTS TO HAVE THEIR OWN VOICE. EVERYONE WANTS TO TELL PEOPLE WHO THEY ARE, WHAT GROUP THEY BELONG TO, WHAT THEY ARE INTERESTED IN.

BACK IN THE DAY PEOPLE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THAT MUCH CLOTHES TO WEAR, AND NOW THAT WE DO, YOU DON'T EVEN LET US WEAR THEM. A WAY TO EXPRESS OUR SELVES. C'MON CHANGE THE RULES WE DON'T ALWAYS HAVE TO STICK TO SOME THING BECAUSE ONE PERSON SAID SO. LET US VOTE. LET MAJORITY RULE!

"Come in and sit down"
"Class has started"

dress code and symbolic speech

by JB

Do you go to a school were you have to wear uniforms? Would you want to be able to wear whatever you want every day to school. Well their are many schools that prohibit you from wearing what ever you want. The reason why some schools do not let you wear what you want is because they want to protect you. That is why they limit your freedom in school so they can protect you. But we should be able to wear whatever we want to because we have the right to be able to wear whatever we want.

We should be able to wear whatever we want because it is a way of expressing ourselves. But the reason why they do not let us wear anything else than uniforms at school is because they want prohibit your freedom so you can be more safe. Schools think that it is not a good thing to wear normal clothes because they think that if you get to wear whatever you want students will more crazier because they are wearing normal clothes. But other reasons are because their are many different kinds of gangs in school. So sometimes what you wear can mean what gang you are in.

But letting students wear whatever they want is a bad thing too. It is a bad thing like I said because their are many different types of gangs in the school. Their are many types of gangs in school, their are gangs that are cool with each others. But their are some gangs that hate each other and that is a bad thing, especially if you have gangs that hate each other that are in the same school. The reason why is because, if you let students let them wear whatever they want to school, they might want to wear something that represents what gang they are from. If their is another student that is from another gang and they wear something that represents what gang they are from.

That can be a bad thing because if they are in a gang that hate each other they might end up fighting and get them in allot of trouble just because of what they are wearing. But we have the first Amendment to back us up. The reason why is, because in the first Amendment it says that you have the right to wear whatever you want. You cant our rights away so we should be able to wear whatever we want. Either way in school they still take that right away from you because here they care more about everyone's safety than freedom.

a few poems

by SG

"love"

Love is it in your heart do you have any love for something.
Ordinary people do have love in them
Very little changes there is one who does not have any love at all
Everyone should help these love less people in our world.

"Run away"

A young couple running to see freedom.
Could they make it to that place.
They are hiding there face.
They are face to face to life or death.
People hunting after them.

"Poor him"
Illegal drugs destroying young dreams.
Look at him he is stealing from his grandmother just to get some weed.
Losing respect from everyone no more trust.
He got lost did not know where to go.
Begging for money but he still lives in the street.

"Look at her"
A young girl is called mom at age 14.
Is this even right to be a girl just destroyed her dream.
She flee to be free.
She should of stay in school but now she is begging because she can't have a job.
Her kid was taking away from her they gave it to her parents.
Now she is dieing she has std she was exposed to prostitute.
Dieing alone for her action.

"She can't speak"
Pain is going every where though her body.
She say her dad abusing her mom.
Scared to speak up.
She hides in the corner crying so much.
Her mom and her run away to be free.

I'm Scared

by SM

I am locked in my room
With my music so loud
That you can't here me cry

I'm scared to leave
That when I leave this room
I will make mistakes

I'm scared to get hurt
I'm scared to cry
I'm scared to feel... like I don't belong

I feel lonely but at the same time safe,
These 4 walls are my only protection
This is my "heaven"

It's my border from "hell"

I'm scared to hear the cracking of my heart
I'm just scared of the outside world
I'm scared that once I leave this room,
I will mess up...

I try and try
I just can wake up and face the disappointments,
the anger and the dangers...
Why is it so hard for me to grow up???

I'm just so scared... of REALITY...

why school can seem like boot camp

Like the military, children have to line up in tidy little rows.
by JM

The Germans: a horrible Jew-destroying people or a wise race with military in mind? This is the question that has made us ponder for some time now. In one sense, the Germans were wise by making their school system like the military. Yet, there were also some dangers. In this article, I will compare and contrast how the school is still like the military. By comparing it we can see how hard the teachers are on us kids. By contrasting it we can see how we have changed it for the better. For instance what if your kids want to go to another job. All of these issues will be discussed in this essay.

In the Late Eighteen hundreds the Germans created a school that would prepare kids for the military. It was part of a society of militarism, where all people must work toward the eventual goal of serving the military. They did it because they wanted to go to war. They probably needed to get more soldiers in the war. So they put the kids in these schools to toughen them up and to make them hard and not afraid of death.

The similarities between the military and the schools now a days are pretty great. We have to be in an in closed place. The military are also in an in closed place. In school if we miss behave you get punished. In the military if you disobey your commanding officer you get punished. Also we have identification cards that tell everyone your number and your name even the group your in. Again, in the military you have numbers and identification cards that tell who you are. That is pretty scary because in both he military and school they don't want to call you by your name. They want to call us by the numbers. They also want us to wear uniforms, just like the military. We have to line up in straight lines and march to and from lunch. We are told when to pee and when to drink and eat.

Just as there are similarities there are differences between the school system and the military. They have intense training both in combat and mind. In schools they only have training in the mind. But even then it is still not the same kind of mind training. They are also different by the way they talk. The military talks and says yes sir, no sir, yes mam, no mam. In school you just say Mr. or Ms. or Mrs. That is a big difference. One last difference is that in the military they want you to address them by there rank. We don't do that in school, its kind of awkward. However, there are people who assume they are higher up and better than you.

Now that you have seen the similarities and differences between the military and the school system. I would like to ask you what do you think of the Germans? Do you like them or do you hate them, Why? Is this military style of education what is best for our current society? Do you think we should change the school systems or should we keep them or should we change? You make the choice because its your life and your education.

why school can seem like boot camp

by RM

Now in my essay, I will explain what is similar and different between our schools from today and the military. I will also be explaining what the pros and cons are for this subject and in a few places, I will also show my own opinions about the same one. Since this subject is concentrated on the late eighteen hundreds, the information that I give out should explain most of the things that you may question about our schools today, and the ones from the military as well. This subject is about the difference and similarities about the military schools and ours, so I suggest you really think deeply about what I'm about to write in the following.

In the late eighteen hundreds, we created our style of education to match the German model. Many of those ideas continue in our everyday life. Also, ther are many pros and cons to this model of education.

Our school today is similar to the military in many ways because what happened in the late eighteen hundreds are still happening today. It's amazing how things can move on from generation to generation, but it actually does happen is happening all around you! One of the reasons that I say that the military is the same as our schools is because, since things pass down from generation to generation, then the same rules that applied to the military and the rules before were not yet lost tot he rules of our schools today. Let me explain better, if the schools from before tried to make themselves like the military, even though we students aren't at all relate to the military today, the rules and expectations from the "military schools" from before, still apply to all of us students out here. There are many other reasons for the similarities, (as I said before) but I think it's time to move on to the differences.

Although there are more similarities through this subject than differences, the differences, (I would say) are more of a concern, as in: they occur more often or are more important than the similarities in this subject. Now, the differences are huge because the more you go into school work and stuff like that, the less you care and do the stuff that the military would most likely do. I'm not saying that the students aren't like, doing the physical education the military is doing, or anything like that. What I mean is more like in the lines of that students forget about having to proceed the rules that were passed on from generation to generation. The similarities have their own good times, but they eventually have to pass on and the differences come along. This is why I said earlier that the differences are the most important ones -- because the differences will have to eventually happen in schools when we're talking about military differences.

In this subject, there are also pros and cons because not all people used to agree with this subject and may not really agree with it today. I would be in the con side of this situation, because I don't think that things from so long ago should still be laws in schools from today (only from this subject, though) because every, at least decade should have their own set of laws unless they're confirmed and accepted with everyone. Now for this situation though, since my opinion doesn't really matter for the laws that have been made, then I guess the things will be different than I expected. The people that do agree with this subject though, think that their children should keep the generation going, and they obviously also believe that having their kids be treated like if they were at the military, is right as well.

Now that you know that this subject has many different subjects in it, I hope you think of this more in debt and actually think about what you think is acceptable and what is not. Everyone has a freedom of speech, so you can either say your opinion to yourself, or say it to anyone. That way other people will know your opinion and may do the same like you did. I know it's very good to express yourself because of what I just did. Expressing myself and what I think, helps me let people know who I am and what I believe in, and that actually does feel really good. This subject was important and hope you learned a lot about military rules from the past and present.

the reasons why kids bully

A lot of young people have a good idea of what bullying is because they see near them every day!Bullying happens when someone hurts or scares off another person on purpose and the person being bullied has a hard time defending himself or herself.Sometimes bullying can occur constantly. Punching, shoving, spreading around bad rumors, keeping certain people out of activities, teasing and other acts that hurt people physically can be considered as "Bullying"

Not only can this happen outside but it can also occur on on-line or electronically.I think the right word for it is "Cyber-bullying."By this Bullying, can be used by sending a mean text, email, posting bad pictures or messages about others in blogs,or on websites.Have you ever been bullied?A lot of people have, they just don´t want to admit it.Bullying hurts, and no one should be part of it. As we see in this picture bullying in not the way to go!

Your probably wondering"Why do kids bully?" There are all kinds of reasons why young people bully others, either occasionally or often. Do any of these sound familiar to you?
1.Because I see others doing it
2.Because it's what you do if you want to hang out with the right crowd(cool kids)
3.Because it makes me feel, stronger, smarter, or better than the person I'm bullying
4.Because it's one of the best ways to keep others from bullying me Whatever the reason, bullying is something we all need to think about. Whether we've done it ourselves ... or whether friends or other people we know are doing it ... we all need to recognize that bullying has a terrible effect on the lives of young people.

It may not be happening to you today, but it could tomorrow.
"Just the fact of life","No big deal." Have you ever heard an adult or someone else say it? Too often, people just don´t take bullying seriously,or until its become of it a big problem that involves something to do with the Hospital. Here are some of the acts that kids that are being bullying do and how bullies can be later affected by it. The kids that are being bullied are skipping school because they are afraid of what will happen that day. And for the person who bullies it can be a problem because later on in life he can end up in jail. They are also most likely to drop out of school. In fact, most school shootings are caused by kids who were bullied non-stop.

"BUT"Wait!"What can be done to stop it?"First of all you should try talking to an adult. They have probably experienced this when they were small too. Or go to your School´s counselor. They will surely know what do in these kind of cases. And don´t worry if they say your a "snitch" or a"chicken." I assure you they wouldn´t like to be treated like they treat you. Have self-confidence. Keeping it silent just makes things worse.

a student's reflections on bullying

BULLYING PEOPLE

[DO YOU KNOW THE DEFINITION OF BULLYING?]

By:ND

JAN.11.2008

I was 8 years old,a 3rd grader at C.W Harris Elementary school when I was bullied. I was bullied by kids at my school just because I was CHUBBY/FAT AND TALL.They used to call me names like King Kong, Twin Towers, Big Foot and Monkey Chunky; and even other names that you can't even imagine kids telling people. They say that they used to call me those names just because I was taller than everyone and I was the only big one in my class. When we went to lunch everyday, they used to tell me that I should eat more Twinkies. I felt like crying every time when somebody hurt my feelings. I wanted to move away from that school and never go back to school ever again because I didn't know what would have happened the next day at school. Sometimes I wished that people would feel how I felt so they could stop. Eventually, it stopped when I was able to find a way to get involved in things.

Every since 3rd grade happen i been getting into sports like softball, basketball and flag football with my friends and cousins. Mostly I'm into softball. That's my hobby. I'm getting into shape so people wouldn't call me those mean names like they use to back in 3rd grade when I was only 8 years old. I feel so happy because I lost so much body fat and that people stop calling me names and mostly started being my friend and talking to me.That's a really good thing that happen to me.

I'm writing this because both kids and adults get bullied whereever they go to school or work. When people do get bullied sometimes people don't want to go back because they are scared and don't want people to know that they are getting bullied on a daily basis. This is what I think because it did happen to be once and I did make a difference by getting into shape and finding an activity that built my self-confidence. I'm proud that I did get into shape and made a difference in me. I LOVE life to because my friends like me because who I am and that's a good thing I FEEL LIKE I'M A DIFFERENT PERSON BUT I'M NOT. I just wish the bullies had seen the real me from the start.

People that are bullied at school or where ever they are bullied at shouldn't be scared to talk to somebody that you trust because when you do keep stuff inside of you, you would get depresses and that you would get sick and that's not a good thing to get sick. The good thing is to tell somebody that you really trust. These are some things that could happen to you and this is what you going to feel:

*DON'T WANT TO GO KNOW WHERE

*GET SCARRED

*GETS MAD BECAUSE THERE BULLYING ON YOU

*NEVER WANTS TO TALK TO PEOPLE

*SHY PERSON

Those aren't good things because then you wouldn't have friends and even that you wouldn't be socializing at all.I mean you wouldn't be talking to people often and you end up all alone.
