"Our City" began as a challenge of sorts. We had to do a GREAT project and someone challenged us to go beyond the typical poster-making and into something deeper. So, we began a documentary. Though we made mistakes (it was too dry and the interviews were too long) students were creative and we interviewed police officers, community organizers and former gang members who now work for faith-based inner-city non-profit organizations. In the process, students began to explore the deeper implications of gangs in our community and how neighborhoods have fought back to revitalize their neighborhood.
